Neurological Physiotherapy

Damage to central nervous system, including brain and spinal cord, means that the messages from brain are not reaching the affected parts of body. This can result in loss of movement and sensation, uncoordinated movement, weak and floppy muscles, spasm and tremor. Neurological Physiotherapy is able to kick-start the message pathways that the brain is struggling to use, to make new pathways through repetitive actions and exercises. There by it can improve symptoms such as, difficulties with loss of balance, loss of hand and arm function, or leg and foot function, walking, spasticity and pain.

In our Neuro department physiotherapists provide advice on active participation in rehabilitation , promoting an active lifestyle to help all individuals to improve and maintain their quality of life..

Passive Limb Exercises: if you are unable to move your arms and legs yourself
Positioning / Splinting: correct limb positioning, or splint prescription, to ensure that your joints don’t tighten
Bed Exercises: to stretch and strengthen your muscles
Transfer techniques
Breathing and Circulation Exercises: to prevent respiratory and vascular complications such as chest infection and DVTs
Mobilisation: assistance to move safely in bed, sit up, stand and walk
Mobility Aids: prescription, advice and instruction on how to safely use a walking frame, or other walking aids as required
Discharge Planning: information regarding any necessary equipment that you may require at home after discharge
Tailored Exercise: exercises to build strength, endurance, coordination and balance

Out Patient Services

Following discharge from hospital Neurological physiotherapy treatment may include hands-on therapies, specific exercise prescription and a home exercise program. Some people with neurological conditions require additional support, high levels of care and specialized equipment, we provide. Balance Retraining, Movement analysis, Custom exercise .Additional services including vestibular rehab, body weight-supported gait and balance training, vision therapy.

Teaching and clinical Training programmes:

Through our academic and clinical education students develop a broad foundation of physiotherapy knowledge and assessment skills. Especially “SKILL LAB TRAINING” As a result the graduates are fully prepared to became an independent professional neurophysiotherapist. About Faculty

Myself Syed Asif Basha, working as an Associate Professor from the year 2024 in this institution. I have been engaging myself in clinical practice, teaching in physiotherapy from past 09 years. My areas of expertise are in Neuro physiotherapy, Paediatric Physiotherapy and Neuro-Paediatric Rehabilitation. I was the Neuro Module leader for training Postgraduate students of MSc Clinical Physiotherapy, with the collaboration of Coventry University, United Kingdom. I am a certified Neuro Dynamic Solutions Trainer from NDS Australia for both Level 1 and 2. I am a recognized PG guide and PG examiner at different universities of State. I'm involved in research projects with the Neurosciences and Paediatric Department.

MPT – KLE Institute of Physiotherapy, Belagavi, Karnataka, in the Year 2016.

Research Areas: Acute care of all Neurological and Paediatric patients (with special focus on Stroke, Spinal cord tumors/injury etc. & Neuropathies/Myelopathies of adult and paediatric population), Studies on healthy population for development of normative values for various categories.
Clinical Areas: Neurological and Paediatric patient care in ICU setups, Rehabilitation of Various conditions of Neurological and Paediatric conditions with emphasis on conditions like stroke, spinal cord injuries/tumors, GBS, TBI, CP, GDD and Neuropathies/Myelopathies.
